New Zealand’s Top Sustainable Businesses Announced
The winners of the Westpac National Sustainable Business Awards were announced at a gala dinner in Auckland in October 2006.
Hamilton YWCA was the winner of the Exploring Award.
Since beginning with energy efficiency measures, the YWCA has made significant progress in reducing its environmental footprint. It has reduced gas use by 25%, is continually improving power efficiencies, and achieves almost zero waste in its meals on wheels service.

Sustainable Business Award '2006'
The YWCA received the Waikato Management School Sustainable Business Award in August. New Heating for the YWCA Hostel
Another project completed in 2006 was the replacement of the original boiler which heats our Clarence St hostel. The new energy efficient system operates during the colder winter months of May-September. The work was significantly supported by the Sutherland Self-Help Trust...more...
