Seeking More Voluntary Drivers

Do you have time to volunteer?THANK YOU TO ALL MY WONDERFUL VOLUNTEER DRIVERS THIS YEAR, WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT YOU.

YWCA Mobile Meals requires drivers to deliver mobile meals to the elderly and those unable to prepare their own meals.   

The Mobile Meals service delivers meals 11am – 12.30pm, Monday to Friday.  Full training is given.

Congratulations New Board Co-Presidents

The YWCA of Hamilton is pleased  to announce their new Board Presidents Hilary Max and Lucy Butler. Hilary and Lucy have demonstrated great maturity and drive throughout their time on the Board and will now act as Co-Presidents. Both Hilary and Lucy are young women. The YWCA of Hamilton's mission is to empower women, especially young women by providing support, young women's programmes, scholarships and leadership opportunities. We wish Hilary and Lucy all the best. Congratulations!

HAPPY 102nd to YWCA LIFE MEMBER NITA BLACKBURN!

Happy birthday to YWCA Life Member Juanita (Nita) Blackburn,who was 102 on the 18th March.

Nita plays Mahjong every Wednesday at the YWCA. She has been involved with the YWCA since the

organisation first started in Hamilton more than 70 years ago.

                      

 

 

 

THE YOUNG WOMEN'S GUIDE TO WELLBEING

Three young women representing the YWCA of Hamilton have designed

a booklet for young women in the Waikato area. The booklet  entitled ‘TheYoung Women’s Guide to Wellbeing’ was created by Abby de Lisle,

Chelsie Foley and Laura Harris, and was funded by RISE at the Werry

Centre. The booklet covers the issues of body image, self confidence,

sex and relationships, and speaking up in difficult situations.

All issues discussed within the booklet have been idenitified through the

YWCA of Hamilton’s Y-Dub Young Women’s Leadership Programme

The booklet has been designed for all young women in the Waikato area

aged 12-18. The YWCA plans to distribute the booklet to any Hamilton schools or community groups that would like the resource.

YWCA YOUNG WOMEN'S TERTIARY EDUCATION AND MAORI WOMEN'S COMMUNITY AWARD

Former YWCA of Hamilton President, and member of the YWCA of Aotearoa New Zealand Board, Rachel Bowley, is a previous YWCA Scholarship winner.

Rachel was a member of the World YWCA delegation to the International AIDS Conference in Vienna in July 2010.  There she shared the work of the YWCA on sexual and reproductive health and rights and HIV and AIDS with the global AIDS community.

The Historic Places Trust in 2010 approved Category II status for Bishopscourt and the chapel.

The chapel was seismically strengthened and re-roofed in July/September 2011 as part of the project to        re-roof of the adjoining Mobile Meals "meals on wheels" kitchen.    The YWCA is grateful to funding supporters including Lottery Environment and Heritage Fund, the Lion Foundation, Trust Waikato, WEL  Energy Trust, the Norah Howell Charitable Trust and the Sir John Logan Campbell Residuary Estate and many individual donors and raffle purchasers who have all contributed to this combined project.
