Our MANAGEMENT

The Hamilton YWCA is governed by a Board (currently ten members) led by President Vanessa Burrett.  Vanessa took over Hamilton YWCA leadership in October 2008 from our youngest-ever President, Season-Mary Downs.  Season-Mary moves to Wellington in 2009 and continues her voluntary governance career as a member of the National YWCA Board.

Season-Mary and Board member Margaret Walden attended the July 2007 World YWCA Council and International Women's Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.

The 2011 World YWCA Council will be held in Zurich, Switzerland.

The Board meets monthly and we hold an Annual General Meeting in October of each year.  New Board members are welcome.

Our Purpose

The YWCA of Aotearoa-New Zealand works to empower women, especially young women, by enhancing their spiritual, physical, mental and cultural well-being.

We acknowledge our Christian and women's heritage, commit ourselves to Te Tiriti O Waitangi and to addressing all forms of oppression so women may together attain social and economic justice.

Our Mission

The YWCA of Hamilton provides a supportive environment for women to facilitate self confidence and self opportunity.  Women are encouraged to gain the ability to express their opinions and to continually grow.
